Why website builders should know a bit of Linux
Most websites run on Linux. But many website builders only work with tools like cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, or FileZilla. They never use the Linux terminal.
In this presentation, Peter Martin explains the basics of Linux for website professionals, with a focus on Joomla websites.
You will learn about the Linux kernel, the filesystem, permissions, ownership, and the Unix philosophy of using small tools that each do one specific task.
With practical examples using Bash, rsync, grep, chmod, and Docker, you will see how the terminal can save you many hours of clicking. You will learn why the idea that “everything is a file” is useful for web development.
You will also discover practical tools and commands that can help you migrate, debug, and maintain websites faster and more efficiently than with a GUI.
