Joomla Community
I have been part of the Joomla community since Joomla was launched in 2005. I started by helping other users on the Joomla Forum and soon became more involved in the international community behind the project.
What started with answering questions developed into more than 20 years of contributing to Joomla in technical, organisational and leadership roles.
Contributing to Joomla
Since 2006, I have been a Global Moderator on the Joomla Forum, helping users and keeping the forum useful and welcoming.
Over the years, I have contributed to Joomla in many other ways. I have worked on the Joomla CMS code, tested improvements, helped with releases, mentored students through Google Summer of Code and shared knowledge through presentations at JoomlaDays, conferences and Joomla User Groups.
In 2024 and 2025, I was one of the Release Managers for Joomla 5.2, coordinating the development, testing and maintenance of that Joomla release.
Community and leadership
My involvement has also included several organisational and leadership roles within the Joomla project, including:
- Board Member of Open Source Matters, the organisation behind Joomla
- Coordinator of Joomla's Operations Department
- Member of the Joomla Community Leadership Team
- Mentor for Joomla in Google Summer of Code
- Global Moderator of the Joomla Forum since 2006
- Release Manager for Joomla 5.2
In the Netherlands, I am treasurer of Stichting Joomla Nederland and co-organise the Joomla User Group Arnhem-Nijmegen.
Why I contribute
For me, open source is about more than software. Joomla exists because people around the world contribute their knowledge, experience and time.
Contributing is my way of giving something back to a project that I have used professionally since 2005. It has also given me the opportunity to work with people from around the world, learn from other developers and users, and help improve the software that many organisations depend on.
Whether I'm contributing code, testing a change, answering a forum question, organising a meeting or giving a presentation, the goal is the same: help make Joomla and its community better.
